Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 5: Maa Skandamata Puja, Significance, and Rituals!

As we reach the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri 2026, the spiritual energy intensifies with the worship of Maa Skandamata. Known as the "Goddess of Fire" and the mother of Lord Kartikeya (Skanda), she represents the maternal form of Goddess Durga—overflowing with compassion, protection, and salvation.

In 2026, the fifth day of Chaitra Navratri falls on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The Legend of Maa Skandamata

The name comes from Skanda (another name for Lord Kartikeya, the commander-in-chief of the celestial army) and Mata (Mother).

According to the Puranas, when the demon Tarakasura oppressed the world, it was prophesied that only the son of Lord Shiva could defeat him. Parvati took the form of Skandamata to nurture and train Lord Skanda for the great war. She is depicted with four arms, holding lotus flowers in two, keeping one hand in Abhaya Mudra, and holding the infant Skanda in her lap with the fourth. She rides a majestic lion and sits on a lotus, earning her the name Padmasana.
