ЁЯФД Step-by-Step Sacred Rituals of Deba Snana Purnima
The execution of Snana Yatra involves highly synchronized, century-old rituals managed by the temple priests (Daitapatis and Suaras).
1. The Dhadi Pahandi Procession
The day kicks off in the early hours with a majestic, rhythmic procession called Pahandi
2. The Maha Snana (The 108 Holy Pitchers)
Once seated, the core bathing ritual begins.
Lord Jagannatha: 35 Pitchers
Lord Balabhadra: 33 Pitchers
Devi Subhadra: 22 Pitchers
Lord Sudarshana: 18 Pitchers
3. The Hati Besha (Elephant Attire)
Following the grand bath, the deities are dressed in the spectacular Hati Besha (Elephant Attire) later in the afternoon.
ЁЯдТ The Pastime of Anasara: The Divine Fever
Immediately following the public bathing ritual, a dramatic shift occurs in the temple's schedule.
[Snana Yatra Public Bath] ──> [15-Day Anasara Isolation] ──> [Rath Yatra Chariot Festival]
As a result, the deities are moved to a special isolation room known as the Anasara Pindi for a 15-day recuperation period
The doors of the main temple remain closed to the general public.
The deities are kept away from standard sunlight and fed special herbal decoctions (Dasamula) by the traditional caretakers.
The public alternative during this dark fortnight is for devotees to travel to the Alarnath Temple in Brahmagiri to seek blessings.
The deities emerge completely cured just a day before the spectacular Puri Rath Yatra, which is locked to roll out on July 16, 2026
ЁЯЫб️ Extensive Administration & Security Arrangements in Puri
