Before the universe existed, it was shrouded in darkness. Maa Kushmanda, a ray of divine light, emerged and took form, smiling and creating the universe with her radiant energy.

She is often depicted with eight hands, holding various objects like a chakra, gada (mace), lotus flower, bow and arrow, kamandalu, amrita Kalash (pot of immortal nectar), and japa mala (rosary). 

Maa Kushmanda is depicted riding a lion, symbolizing her power and majesty. She possesses eight arms (Ashtabhuja), each holding significant objects:   

  • Kamandalu (Water Pot): Represents purity and spiritual nourishment.   
  • Bow and Arrow: Symbolize focus and determination.
  • Lotus: Represents purity and enlightenment.
  • Jar of Amrit (Nectar): Signifies immortality and divine blessings.
  • Discus (Chakra): Represents the destruction of evil.
  • Mace (Gada): Symbolizes power and strength.   
  • Rosary (Japa Mala): Represents devotion and meditation.
  • Jar of Honey: Signifies sweetness and bliss.

Maa Kushmanda Story: Goddess of Light:

Maa Kushmanda is a form of Maa Durga worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri. After the defeat of the demon Jatukasura, the entire Universe was on the verge of complete darkness. The life was about to end and the world was about to collapse. Devi Durga took the form of Devi Kushmanda and recreated the universe. Her little smile, her warmth, and her positive energy brought life back. We are living on this Earth because Kushmanda Mata created all of us.

We offers Malpua, Red Hibiscus, white flowers (especially jasmine), and orange-colored fruits and sweets  to the goddess.

Mantras for Maa Kushmanda:

Devotees chant the following mantra to invoke Maa Kushmanda:

- The seed mantra of Maa Kushmanda is "ऐं ह्रीं देव्यै नम:" "Aim Hreem Devyai Namah", and the puja mantra is  "ऊँ कूष्माण्डायै नम:"(Om Kushmandaiyai Namah).

Meditation Mantra (ध्यान मंत्र):
वन्दे वांछित कामर्थे चन्द्रार्घकृत शेखराम्। सिंहरूढ़ा अष्टभुजा कूष्माण्डा यशस्वनीम्॥
