Gudi Padwa 2026: Stock Market Open or Closed?
Plan Your Trades: Full NSE/BSE Holiday List for the 2026 Festive Season!
As India enters a vibrant festive season this March, traders
and investors are asking one key question: Will the stock markets remain
open? With Gudi Padwa, Chaitra Navratri, and Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid) all
falling within the same week in 2026, the trading calendar can get a bit
confusing.
Despite the festivities, the National Stock Exchange
(NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have a very specific schedule
for 2026. Here is the definitive guide to market openings and closures for the
upcoming holidays.
Market Status: Gudi Padwa, Eid, and Navratri 2026
For many retail traders, the good news is that the markets
will remain largely operational during the peak festive days of March.

1. Gudi Padwa (March 19, 2026): A "Settlement"
Holiday
While Gudi Padwa is a major bank holiday in Maharashtra, it
is not an equity trading holiday.
- Trading:
You can buy and sell shares, F&O, and commodities as usual from 9:15
AM to 3:30 PM.
- Settlement:
It is a Clearing and Settlement Holiday. This means while you can
trade, the actual transfer of shares and funds (payouts) will be delayed
by one day. Trades made on Wednesday (March 18) and Thursday (March 19)
will be settled together on Friday (March 20).
2. Eid-ul-Fitr (March 21, 2026)
In 2026, Eid-ul-Fitr falls on Saturday, March 21
(subject to moon sighting). Since the stock market is always closed on
Saturdays, there is no additional weekday closure for this festival. If
celebrated on March 20 in some regions, the markets will still remain OPEN
as per the official NSE circular.
3. Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami
Navratri begins on March 19, and markets will remain open
throughout the nine days. However, the festival concludes with Ram Navami on
Thursday, March 26, which is an official trading holiday. Both NSE
and BSE will be completely closed on this day.
Full Market Holiday List: March & April 2026

closures for the Indian stock markets:

31 (Tuesday): Shri Mahavir Jayanti

Important Note for Intraday Traders
Since March 19 (Gudi Padwa) is a bank holiday in Mumbai, banking
services like NEFT/RTGS might be unavailable or delayed at physical
branches. Ensure your trading account is pre-funded by March 18 to avoid
any margin shortfalls during the festive volatility.
